Only two blacks on this year's Forbes Worlds Richest People list

By: Errol mars

The richest black person in the world remains Jamaican born Michael Lee-Chin. The Burlington, Ontario, Canada resident holds the No.243 spot on the Forbes Mazagine list of the world's richest people. His networth is up $100 million to $2.5 billion from $2.4 billion last year. The mutual fund guru who recently refocused on his Caribbean roots, bought Jamaican National Commercial Bank three years ago and Trinidad & Tobago's Total Finance bank last year. He has also formed a $1 billion private equity group based in Toronto to invest in the island economies.

The only other black on the list is Oprah Winfrey whose networth has climbed to $1.3 billion from $1.1 billion last year. Oprah making her third appearance sits at the No.507 spot on the list. The Oprah Winfrey Show remains the no.1 talk show on tv and air in 112 countries. The queen of all media renewed her contract last year, a move that will keep The Oprah Winfrey Show on the air through the 2010-11 season.

Of the 691 known billionaires in the world with a networth of $2.2 trillion, 341 from the U.S., we still only know of 2 black billionaires. This shows just how little power we have in the world. The richest person on the list is still Bill Gates with a networth of $46.5 billion, down a bit this year. It is said that their are at lease as many unknown billionaires as there are known ones.
