Michael Lee-Chin has purchased collection of Bob Marley memorabilia

Michael Lee-Chin has purchased the world's largest collection of Bob Marley memorabilia and will donate the 200 000 plus items to a yet-to-be-established museum of Jamaican music.

The collection, which was owned by California musicologist Roger Steffens who build the collection over 31 years and fills six rooms in his Los Angeles home, includes 12,000 records and CDs, 10,000 posters and flyers, and 12,000 hours of tape. Mr. Steffens will serve as the new museum's curator emeritus.

In April 2003, Lee-Chin made a $30-million donation toward the Royal Ontario Museum's major renovation project, while in Jamaica, he has invested in the country's largest bank, real estate, cable and wireless companies, and in Radio Jamaica.

Bob Marley died of cancer in 1981.
