Showcasing America's Black Brain Power

Black Ph.D./Ed.D. Magazine is a publication that brings the brightest Black minds to the forefront. Giving the brilliant minds in our community an opportunity to shine.

Developed by Velma Hepburn, Ed.D. in April 2004, in Miami, Florida. Dr. Hepburn scouted the nation for Blacks who have earned a doctorate-the highest degree awarded in academia, and Black doctorates who have made a positive impact in their communities and professions.

Blacks with different doctoral degrees are featured in the magazine, e.g. D.A. (Doctor of Arts), D.S.W. (Doctor of Social Work), and D.L.S. (Doctor of Library Science) to name a few. The magazine will also feature Black doctorates in government, corporate sector, academia, and the fine arts. Since Anglos outnumber Blacks in obtaining a doctoral degree (The Journal of Blacks in Higher Education, 2005), there is a definite need for this publication. According to Hepburn, Black doctorates who are featured in the magazine have carved out their legacies for future generations.
