Morgan Freeman's ClickStar Announces Movie Download Partnerships With Three Big Hollywood Studios

ClickStar Inc., the broadband entertainment company backed by Morgan Freeman's Revelations Entertainment and Intel Corporation, today announced digital distribution agreements with Sony Pictures, Universal Studios, and Warner Bros. in advance of its launch this week.

ClickStar was founded by Intel Corporation and Revelations Entertainment, the production company headed by Morgan Freeman and business partner Lori McCreary.

This announcement enables ClickStar to launch with a library of several hundred “major” studio titles, more than its main early competitor in this space, Apple Computer's Itunes service, which launched its movie-download service in September with 100 titles from only one major studio, Disney.

"We are proud to feature many of the greatest movies ever made through these new agreements. Consumers can now access their favorite films in an easy, convenient manner for a premium-quality viewing experience,” ClickStar CEO James Ackerman said.

The studio libraries include properties ranging from classic titles to new day-and-date DVD releases including Warner Bros.’ SUPERMAN RETURNS and THE ANT BULLY; Universal’s YOU, ME & DUPREE and MIAMI VICE; and Sony Pictures’ THE DA VINCI CODE and CLICK. Movies will be available for purchase or rental download. Prices for purchase and rental will be competitive with industry trends.

Freeman had been lobbing the Hollywood studios, to allow their movies to be downloaded over the Internet. And, that their movies could be reasonably safeguarded against piracy.
