Only Two Blacks on Worlds Richest People List

Forbes magazine has released its annual list of the worlds richest people and this year there are still only two blacks on the list. This year the list is a record 793, up 102 from last year. They’re worth a combined $2.6 trillion, up 18% since last March with an average net worth of $3.3 billion. The richest person on the list remains Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates with a networth of $50 billion.

Coming in at #365 is Jamaican born Michael Lee-Chin with a networth of $2.1 billion down $400 million from last year. Lee-Chin has had a ruff year at his AIC mutual funds saw assets under management decline 19.8% last year due to lackluster fund performance. Lee-Chin continues to support Caribbean economies. Owns stakes in National Commercial Bank Jamaica and Total Finance in Trinidad & Tobago; this year he cofounded Columbus Communications, a cable and communications company in Barbados. Added Reggae Beach, 250 acres of beachfront property in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, to his personal real estate portfolio, which also includes homes in Canada and Florida.

Oprah Winfrey takes the 562nd position with a networth of $1.4 billion up $100 million from last year. The talk show queen show is still the no. 1 talk show on TV. She recent signed a $55 million deal with XM Satellite Radio to create her own channel. She owns property in Chicago, Hawaii, Santa Barbara. Gives to needy women, children and families via Oprah's Angel Network and her personal charity, the Oprah Winfrey Foundation.
