Google in Talks to Buy Video Game Ad Company

Google (GOOG) reportedly wants to expand its advertising reach into the world of video games by acquiring Adscape Media Inc.

Adscape's technology delivers advertisements over the Internet into video games.

According to a report in The Wall Street Journal Saturday, Google is in talks to acquire the closely held San Francisco company.

By acquiring Adscape, Google, the No. 1 Internet search company could offer its advertising customers a new venue for ads.

Microsoft (MSFT) last year acquired Massive, a company that delivers ads to video games, for $200 million, the report noted.

A deal with Adscape could help Google in its bid to broker advertising across many types of media worldwide, the report said.

Google’s 2006 revenue is expected to top $10 billion on the strength of its online-ad sales.

A deal could be announced as early as next week, the report said.
