Nokia Previews Phone of the Future

By: Errol mars

On Monday Nokia offered a glimpse of its future mobile phone designs when it unveiled its new "Morph" concept phone, a solar-powered, self-cleaning and shape-shifting mobile device.

Morph is a concept that demonstrates how future mobile devices might be stretchable and flexible, allowing the user to transform their mobile device into radically different shapes.  It demonstrates the ultimate functionality that nanotechnology, the science of building electronics at the subatomic level might be capable of delivering. Phones made from material that can change into different shapes.

Dr. Bob Iannucci, Chief Technology Officer, Nokia, commented: "Nokia Research Center is looking at ways to reinvent the form and function of mobile devices; the Morph concept shows what might be possible".

Nokia is developing the Morph concept in collaboration with the University of Cambridge. Elements of Morph might be available to integrate into handheld devices within 7 years, though initially only at the high-end. However, Nokia, thinks nanotechnology will one day lead to low cost manufacturing solutions, allowing the possibility of integrating the complex functionality into low price devices.
