Is Jay-Z and Apple Planning A New Record Label?

After stepping down as CEO of Def Jam every one has been wondering what would be Mr.Carters next move? Now the rumors all flying the Mr. Carter is in the process of launching a new music label with Steve Job's Apple Inc.

Earlier this week, gadget blogger BoyGenius reported that Jay-Z, who recently left the Def Jam label, will team with Apple to attract artists to iTunes' direct distribution model.

Now that you’ve heard the news, we thought it was time to break things down and add a little more of what we know. When we said Apple and Jay-Z were starting a record label, it doesn’t mean that Jay is running it. It just means they are doing it together.

Jay-Z has been very active in the business world since semi-retiring from rapping. His 40/40 Clubs has been in expansion mode and he is reported to be in the process of developing a hotel project with business partners. We will continue to monitor this story. Apple's annual MacWorld conference will be held on Jan. 15. This is usually one of the places where big Apple announcements are made.
