Hammer's DanceJam Opens

By: Errol Mars

M.C. Hammer's DanceJam.com, the YouTube clone dedicated to dancers and wannabe dancers launched into open beta today.

DanceJam is a dance-oriented version of YouTube, where users hang out and watch people dance, learn how to dance, or show off their moves online. DanceJam features locally uploaded videos and content from sites like YouTube. DanceJam has been in private beta testing for several months.

I've just played around on the DanceJam.com site and I really got into the dance battles. It was fun watching and voting on the videos. But I have to wonder what is to stop YouTube from adding the battle feature. That battle feature is the most unique thing about DanceJam.

DanceJam was founded by M.C. Hammer, and Geoffrey Arone and Anthony Young from Flock. The company has taken $4.5 million in funding over two rounds, with investors including Ron Conway, Alex Algard, Michael Tanne, Geoff Ralston, Alex Welch, Ariel Poler, Rustic Canyon Partners, Softbank Capital and Michael Arrington.
