Patrice Motsepe

Patrice Motsepe, 43

This lawyer and gold-mining magnate is estimated to have a networth north of $500 million. He's the biggest single shareholder of the world's fifth-largest gold mining company. He controls 19.8 per cent of Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited. Motsepe owns the Mamelodi Sundowns, one of South Africa's most successful soccer teams.

 

Saki Macozoma, 47

Saki Macozoma is the chairman of STANLIB Ltd. He also controls BEE Consortium with Cyril Ramaphosa as well as having stakes in some of South Africas biggest companies.

 

Cyril Ramaphosa, 52

Millennium Consolidated Investments is the exclusive investment vehicle of Cyril Ramaphosa. He owns 1.2% of Standard Bank, is chairman of Millennium Consolidated Investment as well as the single largest shareholder. He also has stakes in SABMiller, Firstrand, Johnnic Holdings, MTN Group, service company Rebserve and textile manufacturer Seardel.

 

Tokyo Sexwale, 52

Mr. Sexwale controls Mvelaphanda Resources a broadly-based company with significant stakes in South African precious metal and mineral assets including Gold Fields, Northam Platinum and Trans Hex. Mvelaphanda Resources revenue in 2003 was US$224 million.
